Gallery MORYTA English

Gallery MORYTA opened in 1991 on Keyaki Street, an important cultural spot in Fukuoka City. We focus on displaying and introducing contemporary art and their creators. Besides exhibitions, the gallery also holds more general cultural events such as panel sessions, live music, and performances.
In addition to gallery activities, we are actively engaged in planning museum exhibitions and cultural events in the region. Notable projects include:
We discover and introduce artists and works with unique perspectives. At the same time, we also focus on the avant-garde art movements of the 1950s and 60s. While Japan’s Gutai and Mono-Ha are well-known worldwide, regional movements such as Kyushu-ha and Shudan-kumo also emerged. Across the border, Taiwan saw movements like the Tong Fang Painting Association and Fifth Moon Group. We aim to convey the interest and depth of such art to as many people as possible, sharing the joy worldwide.
In recent years, we have introduced young artists such as Uzo Hiramatsu, Susumu Takashima, Marie Higashi, Kazuki Torigoe, Season Lao, among others, who have developed and expanded their activities both in Japan and abroad, receiving high acclaim.
The gallery values the interaction between artwork and viewer. Visitors often discover new perspectives, broaden their consciousness, and develop fresh expressions. We hope to continue fostering such enlightening experiences in the future.
