吉田重信「死光」－光の見える死に方
深淵を思わせる吸い込まれそうなモノクロ－ムの写真には、人間の知覚に別な角度から光をあてることで、日常とは少し違う世界へと誘いこむための手段であり、ひとつの技法である。基本は生命が対峙する光であり、この世の現象界を考察する意識にある。
ある特殊な光、すなわち目に見える物体の表面で空気のように息づいているような光を常に知覚することから始まり、目に見えるものを撮影するのではなく、ふつうの視覚では見ることが出来ない時間の流れ、空間の広がり、身体の移動、天体の運動などを現すことによって、はじめて目にみえるようになる。
つまり通常見慣れた情景とは違う一変した様相を開示してみせるとき、そこに「死」の存在論理的位相から彼岸の境界が現れるのである。「死」とは、「自我」の「無」化の実践であり、その死を通じて自然の「あるがまま」を生起させることである。
吉田重信
1958年福島県いわき市生まれ。
主に光をテーマに作品を制作する現代美術家。1990年代初頭から太陽光線を利用したインスタレーションや映像作品を発表し続けている。光にまつわる科学的、形而上学な側面の両者を行き来しつつ、独自の作品によって「光」という存在の本質や、自然と人間の関わりを私たちに提示する。吉田の作品や思想は静かに呼吸するようにうつろいゆく光によって、観る者の想像力を豊かに喚起する。彼の作品は国内外の美術館のみならず、近年ではアートフェアなどにおいて大きな話題と高い評価を得ている。
1991年いわき市立美術館にて自然光の作品「Infinite Light」を発表後、水戸芸術館、宇都宮美術館、広島現代美術館、川村記念美術館、目黒区美術館、岩手県立美術館、東京都写真美術館、茨城県天心記念五浦美術館等にて発表。
1995年から自然光を使ったワークショップ「虹ヲアツメル・虹ノカンサツ」、「光の鳥」プロジェクトは大きな注目を浴びる。
また震災後の主な活動に「FUKUSHIMA ART プロジェクト」があり、さらに「玄玄天」ではアートディレクターとして国内美術家の有志を集め、その後の福島を「伝える」「考える」展示の場を支える。
近年では国内外のアートフェア（ART BASEL/ART FAIR TOKYO/DAEGU ART FAIR/ART FAIR ASIA FUKUOKA/ART TAIPEI)にも作品が紹介される。
パブリックアートやコレクションにはNTTドコモ株式会社（東京都墨田区）、CCGA現代グラフィックアートセンター（福島）、トルコ・日本基金文化センター（トルコ）、Grundy Art Gallery Blackpool(イギリス）、岩手県立美術館（岩手）、和歌山県立近代美術館（和歌山）ほか国内外に多数にコレクションされている。
2019年にはAnselm KieferやReiko IkemuraらとともにMuseum on the Seam（イスラエル）の「HIROSHIMA」展においてグループ展が開催され、作品もコレクションされる。
Born 1958 in Iwaki, Fukushima prefecture.
He’s a contemporary artist that primarily creates works surrounding the theme of light. Since the early 1990s Yoshida has been releasing Installation Art and video works utilizing sunlight. While traversing between both the scientific and metaphysical aspects of light, he shows us the true nature of ”light” and the connection between nature and humans. Yoshida’s works and thoughts richly excite the viewers imagination with changing lights like calm breathing. His works have gathered great deal of appraisal in recent years in art museums as well as art fairs in and out side of Japan.
After showing his work with natural light ”Infinite Light” (1991) at Iwaki City Art Museum, he also got to hold exhibitions at Art Tower Mito, Utsunomiya Museum of Art, Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, Kawamura Memorial DIC Museum of Art, Meguro Museum of Art, Iwate Museum of Art, Tokyo Photographic Art Museum and Tenshin Memorial Museum of Art.
Since 1995 he has attracted a lot of attention for his workshops on how to use natural light ”Gathering Rainbows, Watching Rainbows” and the project ”The Birds of Light”.
In addition, after the earthquake one of his major activities was the ”FUKUSHIMA ART Project”, as well as attracting local artist for volunteering as the director of ”gengenten”, which sustains subsequent exhibitions that ”teach” and ”think” about Fukushima.
Recently his works have been shown at art fairs in and outside the country (ART BASEL, ART FAIR TOKYO, DAEGU ART FAIR, ART FAIR ASIA FUKUOKA, ART TAIPEI).
His public art and collections in Japan and overseas include: NTT Docomo (Tokyo, Sumida), CCGA Center of Contemporary Graphic Art (Fukushima), Turkey Japan Center of Culture Foundation (Turkey), Grundy Art Gallery Blackpool (Great Britain), Iwate Museum of Art (Iwate), The Museum of Modern Art, Wakayama (Wakayama), Museum on the Seam (Israel) and many more.
2019 his works were exhibited together with Anselm Kiefer and Reiko Ikemura in the ”HIROSHIMA” exhibition at the Museum of the Seam (Israel), where he also has a collection.
